That Certain Feeling
CD (Item 600285) Hatology (Switzerland), 1990 — Condition: New Copy
Ran Blake plays George Gershwin – but in a way that's unlike any album of standards we've ever heard! Blake alone would already be quite a change – given his unique way of blocking out a tune – taking its core fragments and weaving them into something new. But he's also working here with Ricky Ford on tenor and Steve Lacy on soprano sax – both reedmen who bring a rich sense of feeling to the record – sharp lines and soulful tones that further the experimental setups by Blake, and really help tie the whole thing together! Most tracks are shortish, and beautiful in their economy – and titles include "Clara Clara", "Who Cares", "Liza", "But Not For Me", "Mine", "Blues", "Oh Where's My Bess", and "Strike Up The Band". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
