Jazz At The Flamingo – 10th Anniversary Tribute (with bonus tracks)Various
CD (Item 589543) Ember/Fantastic Voyage (UK), 1961 — Condition: New Copy
The leading lights of the British jazz scene in the postwar years – all packed nicely into this sweet set from '61, put together to celebrate a decade of jazz and London's legendary Flamingo Club! The lineup here is virtually a who's who of the Brit scene at its best – drummer Tony Crombie, reedman Ronnie Ross, pianist Eddie Thompson, and the legendary The Jazz Couriers group with Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott! The set's on the Ember Records label, a UK imprint that issued some of the best British jazz of the 50s and 60s – and nicely mixes us smaller trio, quartet and quintet settings as well as larger jazz orchestra numbers. Groups are led by Crombie, Thompson, Whittle and Ross with great solo work from Ronnie Scott, Tubby Hayes, and Don Rendell on tenor, and the mighty Jimmy Deuchar on trumpet! Titles include "All Star Special" by Flamingo All Stars, "Wait And See" and "Fishin' The Blues" by London Jazz Quartet, "Red Prune" by Ronnie Ross Quintet, "The Serpent" by The Jazz Couriers, "Just Play" by Eddie Thompson Trio, "Interpol Chase" by Tony Crombie Orchestra, and more. CD features 6 bonus tracks too – 4 numbers by the British Jazz Trio, including "London Pride" and "Charlie Is My Darling" – and 2 by the Tommy Whittle Quintet, unissued takes of "Lullabye" and "Heard & Seen". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
