Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Band — You're So Beautiful (180 gram vinyl) ... LP 9.99

The last album recorded by Charles Wright with the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band – and a set that's even more stretched out and trippy than their other albums! Gone are the tight short cuts of earlier days, and in their place are longer messed-up funky numbers that have more of a jamming party feel – tunes that let the whole group open up in a relaxed and soulful mode that must have been plenty great to see happening live in the studio! Charles sings in a style that mixes straighter soul with "crazy man" kind of lyrics – of the sort that he later sang on his own LPs – and the album features the wicked tune "Express Yourself II", a great follow-up to the first one, done in a more open-styled way, but still with the same hook and rhythm! Other tracks include "Just To Settle My Nerves", "Let's Make Love Not War", "What Can You Bring Me?", "Your Love", and "You're So Beautiful". (Cover has a cutout hole.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Arista, 1977. Very Good+
The second album by this legendary 70s funk combo – best known as Herbie Hancock's backing band, but sounding great here on their own. Polydor, 1973. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
A masterpiece of funky soul – and one of the greatest albums of the early 70s! It all comes together on this one – funk, soul, politics, and production – and the record is still one of the clearest examples of James Brown's genius that you'll ever find! Recorded during the same ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cadet, 1966. Very Good+
One of the better albums by this great Chicago soul studio group – but all of them are pretty nice! The great Richard Evans is still at the head of The Strings, and the album features solo work by Charles Stepney and Lennie Druss, in a cool breezy Chess/Cadet soul jazz kind of mode. The ...
