A tremendous set of 70s samba – a rare gem issued on the smaller Tapecar album, and a vivid portrait of some of the best indie talents of the genre at the time! There's a freshness here that really grabs us right away – the kind of sublime sounds that keep us digging for rare samba records over the years – a sparkling, spontaneous sort of energy that comes through in the music right away – as singers, instrumentalists, and percussionists groove together beautifully in an upbeat, soulful, joyous sort of way! Production is nice and crisp – which really preserves the energy of the music – and titles include "Alegria" by Ze Di, "Acalentava" by Candeia, "Poxa" by Gilson De Souza, "Volta Por Cima" by Noite Ilustrada, "Resto De Amor" by Vincente, "Carolina Meu Bem" by Xango Da Mangueira, and "Bloco Da Madrugada" by Noite Ilustrada.  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Totally cool, totally wonderful – and a massive set of hardly-heard work from Brazilian keyboardist Djalma Ferreira! Djalma's a name that's not nearly as well-known in the states as Walter Wanderley – but he got his start well before Walter, working in some 50s modes that were mighty ... CD

One of the grooviest records ever from Claudette Soares – and that's saying a heck of a lot, given the amount of groovy work she recorded! The set features backings from the Briamonte Orchestra – who are great in blending subtle funk with larger orchestrations – at a level that ... CD

Stunning sounds from the lovely Ana Margarida – heard here on a rare outing for the legendary Forma label! The set's got some qualities that link it to the bossa material from Brazil at the time, but it's also got a much deeper sense of arrangement and presentation too – thanks to the ... CD

A bit bossa nova, a bit easy listening, and a very groovy group from the late years of the Elenco label! The group's headed up by Jose Briamonte, but gets some key help on the session from Roberto Menescal – who's clearly got the right ear for Briamonte's mix of strings, piano, and some ... CD

Tremendously beautiful work from Claudette Soares – and just the kind of record to show why she was different than some of her contemporaries in Brazil! The album's got a nice little groove on most numbers – even the mellower ones – a style that's a bit like the best Blue Brazil ... CD
