A great start as a solo act for the legendary David Ruffin – stepping out here from The Temptations with a wonderfully heartbreaking style! The title of the record really sums up the feel of the set – a sense of desperation that really comes through in Ruffin's raspy vocals – with an edge that was already great in his previous group, but which really soars here amidst a range of Motown settings from Harvey Fuqua, Johnny Briston, Ivy Jo Hunter, and George Gordy. Some of the previous Temps baroque-soul elements create a complexity in the orchestrations – which David cuts through in this personal, powerful way – on titles that include "My Whole World Ended", "Pieces Of A Man", "Everlasting Love", "My Love Is Growing Stronger", "We'll Have A Good Thing Going On", and "World Of Darkness". (Reissue pressing. Cover has a cutout notch and a few creases.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

In My Stride
Motown, 1977. Very Good+
Later Motown work from David Ruffin, but still pretty darn great – thanks to vocals that rise to the top, no matter what the tune! The album was co-produced by Van McCoy and Charles Kipps, with arrangements by McCoy – but the overall sound is light years away from some of Van's poppier ... LP, Vinyl record album

Motown, 1974. Very Good+
A strange title, but a great little record – and a real righteous step forward for David Ruffin! Given Ruffin's work for Motown – both as a solo act and in The Temptations – we're hardly likely to associate him with rock and roll – but we can say that the record has David ... LP, Vinyl record album

Together
Motown, 1969. Very Good+ Gatefold
Motown's second pairing of its two biggest groups of the late 60s – a massive 7-voiced meeting in soul music, with results that are surprisingly great! Frank Wilson produced the whole set, and he does a good job of keeping all players in check – never letting the whole thing get too ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great set of Stevie's best tracks for Motown! 3 LPs deep, with 40 tracks in all, mostly from the late 60s, with a handful of numbers from the early 70s, including a few goodies that are getting tougher to find on wax. Includes "Hey Love", "Angie Girl", "Yester-Me, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Motown, 1964. Near Mint-
It's only 1964, early in Motown's history, but Mary's managed to rack up a considerable batch of hits – no surprise since she was one of the label's best female singers of the early years! This set features 12 classics by Mary – including "You Beat Me To The Punch", "My ... LP, Vinyl record album

Warner, 1970. Very Good-
A masterpiece of messed-up LA funk – and one of the crowning moments in the career of Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band! Polydor, 1978. Very Good-
A masterpiece – and don't pass it up! Sure, the date's a bit later than some of Roy's classic work, but the record's got a sound like no other – with a slow mellow jazzy style that shows Roy working at the height of his powers! There's some wonderful spacey production on the record ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blowfly Disco
Weird World, Late 70s. Good+
Excellent stuff from Blow Fly – and a great bit of funk that's a hilarious parody of disco! Blow's band funks it up with riffs that you'd hear from The JBs, BT Express, or other groups of the time – while Blow himself sings these very off-color, and very funny lyrics that rip off the ...
