CD (Item 597952) Jazz Institute Chicago, 2011 — Condition: New Copy
A surprisingly great little group from Chicago – one put together by the Jazz Institute, and comprised of younger up and coming talents from a next generation of musicians! Yet for an educational project, the set is quite hip – way more than just textbook approaches to jazz, and spun out with a soulful, flowing sort of energy that really lives up to our rich legacy of jazz expression in the Windy City! The rhythms are especially nice – the kind that seem to ignite great work from the horn soloists right away – and which almost have the kind of young lions vibe of underground/indie jazz releases from a few decades back. The set boasts some guest work from Corey Wilkes on trumpet, Robert Irving III on piano, and Ari Brown on tenor – but the young players are what really keep things interesting – on cuts that include "Afro Centric", "Infant Eyes", "Library", "The Drive", "Butterfly", "Black Narcissus", and "Invitation". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
