A brilliant all-jazz set from brothers Enzo and Gianni Lo Greco – better known for their work as Soulstance, but grooving here in an all-acoustic session with plenty of classic touches! The Lo Greco brothers have really pulled out their love of classic Blue Note and Prestige jazz from the 60s here – and lead a hip quintet that dances along with a fluid, soulful, and powerful sound – classic hardbop with bits of modal and soul jazz influences, played by a lineup that includes Enzo on bass, Gianni on drums, Germano Zenga on tenor, Hendrixon Mena on trumpet, and Alberto Bonacasa on piano. The writing is superb, with lots of echoes of Wayne Shorter's best compositions from the 60s – no surprise, given that the group also plays a Shorter number – and titles include "Snap Count", "Just Easy", "Passion Dream", "Yes & No", "Walkin On The Bridge", and "Woodoo Dance". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
