CD (Item 627629) Sansu/Charly (UK), Late 60s/1970s — Condition: New Copy

Think you know Huey Piano Smith? Think again – as this massively overstuffed set shows that there's plenty more to discover! Instead of Huey's over-reissued New Orleans tracks from the early years, this package brings together late 60s soul and raw 70s funk – a lesser-known side of Smith's career, and proof that he had plenty of greatness to offer well into the 70s! There's still plenty of heavy Crescent City soul at the bottom of the grooves – but Huey also really takes off in a fast flurry of new styles too – some modes that get increasingly hip on the second half of the collection, as the tunes take on plenty of wonderful 70s funk elements. As with other Charly collections, there's a huge amount of material here – a whopping 45 tracks, packaged in a book-styled cover with a very vivid booklet – and titles that include "Ballad Of A Black Man", "The Whatcha Call Em (ext version)", "Don't You Just Know It", "Funky Funky Football", "High Blood Pressure", "Coo Coo Over You", "You Ain't No Hippie", "Smile For Me", "Twowaypockaway (parts 1 & 2)", "Eight Bars Of Amen", "Epitaph Of Uncle Tom", "Bury Me Dead", "Baby You Hurt Me", "Young Blood", and "We Like Mambo".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
