Latin Beats – A Tribute to Tito Puente

CD (Item 34665) Mr Bongo (UK), Late 60s/1970s — Condition: New Copy

A great set of Latin grooves – and a fitting followup to Bongo's Brazilian Beats set! Forget the "tribute to Tito" in the title – because this is more just a great compilation of hard Latin than it is any sort of homage to the great Latin percussionist! But Tito is on the record, as well as a host of older Latin artists from the Latin Soul and Latin Funk eras, as well as a few newer players. There's a total of 18 cuts in all – including "Tito's Odyssey", Watu Wasuri", "Black Breother", "110th & 5th Ave", and Hit The Bongo" by Tito, plus "Hotel Alyssa Soussie" by Sabu Martinez, "Rompe Cocorico" by Juan Pablo Torres, "Om Mani Padme Hum" by Sahib Shihab, "Jive Samba" by Jack Costanzo & Jerry Woo, "Soul Drummers" by Ray Barretto, "Tighten Up" by Al Escobar, "Babarabatiri" by Beny More, "Land Of Love" by Louie Ramirez, "Coccinando" by Ray Barretto, and "Nervous Track (Yellow mix)" by Nuyorican Soul. Also features a Bongo remix of Tito's "Oye Como Va"! A good set, and the kind of solid batch of Latin you can put in the crate next to the NuYorica and Latin Spectrum comps!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
