Bed Of Pain – Greek Rembetika, Folk & Mortika 78'sVarious
LP (Item 607746) Mississippi, 1930s/1940s — Condition: New Copy
A compelling title – and one that definitely lives up to the music here – given that most tunes are drenched in melancholy, and ring out with these dark tones that are as beautiful as they are broken-hearted! The work's all pulled from rare Greek 78s – a format that seems to only further emphasize some of these qualities in the music – through spare, stark recording modes that really bring the vocals and bouzouki to the forefront. Most tunes have little else other than that instrument and a singer – and titles include "Bir Allah" by Stella Haskil, "The Witch From Bagdhad" by Prodromos Tsaousakis, "Neva Rast Manes" by Kostas Roukounas, "To Kalogeraki" by Gus Dussas, and "I'm Coming Now To Kokkinia" by Kotas Skarvelis. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
