Heavy duty fuzzy soul, from the group that once backed Fugi, who recorded the massive "Mary, Don't Take Me On No Bad Trip".) The record's got a distinct batch of influences that run from Funkadelic, to Hendrix, to Chicago electric blues – but since the recording (from 1970) was contemporaneous with most of those influences, we should give the group more credit than just listing others with a similar sound. Includes the great stoned track "Cynthy-Ruth", plus "Prophet", "Reality", "I Don't Want To Die", and "Over & Over".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Tuff City/Funky Delicacies, Early 70s. New Copy
An essential bit of funkiness from this obscure New Orleans funk combo! The Gaturs' frontman was keyboardist Willie Tee – who went on to greater fame as a jazz and session player – but we like him best at this early point, when he was wailing away on organ in a tight choppy small group ... The second album from Shuggie Otis – a wild and wooly batch of grooves that really stretches out the sound from the first! Some of the most striking work we've heard from Neneh Cherry in years – and a great follow-up to her previous project with The Thing! Heavy funk from the great Jimmy Ellis – billed here with a "preacher" in his name, which is a great indication of the spiritual soul going on in the music! Jimmy's grooves here are definitely secular, but there's a depth that definitely echoes some gospel roots too – mixed ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of the most fantastic albums by the JBs – a masterpiece of funky jamming, tight instrumentation, and that free yet tight style of the James Brown 70s years! An incredible album – a landmark piece of funk that nobody should be without, funk fan or not!
