CD (Item 593775) Polskie Nagrania (Poland), Late 60s/1970s/1980s — Condition: New Copy

Dig Polish Jazz? If not, you've been missing plenty – because the Polish scene of the 60s, 70s, and 80s produced some truly amazing music – not just noteworthy for being some of the freest expression to happen under Communist rule, but also for being some of the hippest work recorded on both sides of the Iron Curtain at the time! There's a richly experimental vibe going on here – a way of really pushing the boundaries past any simple stylistic conventions – and modes that hardly try to copy any familiar US styles of the period, and instead really strike out on their own in a range of unique sounds and flavors. Instrumentation and arrangements are always striking – with plenty of surprises along the way that really keep things fresh – and which should hopefully get you digging all the other great Polish work from the time. Hats off to Captain Sparky and the Soul Service DJ Team for compiling this one (as well as the excellent Polish Funk series) – and tracks include "The Opener" by Jan Ptaszy Wroblewski, "Hymn Dla Slonca" by Jazz Choral & Tomasz Szukalski Quartet, "Tiritaka" by Kazimierz Jonkisz Quintet, "Day In The City" by Wojciech Karolak, "Szafa" by Zbigniew Namyslowski Quartet, "Taniec Pawia" by Janusz Muniak, "Chociaz Niewiele Ale Zawsze" by Crash, and "Drinking Song" by Adam Makowicz.  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
