Crystal Anis
LP (Item 631311) HoZac, 2012 — Condition: New Copy
Noirish French rock from The Liminanas – the second great record in a row from multi-instrumentalist Lionel and sultry singer/drummer Marie! Crystal Anis is their first album for Hozac – and one that equals, if not tops their underground instant classic debut for Trouble In Mind. Honestly, no other neo-classic garage psych revivalists anywhere in the world hits our sweet spot like The Liminanas. They carry a darkness-tinged, fuzzy guitar vibe inspired by early Velvets, the sometimes spoken, sometimes sung sexiness of Serge Gainsbourg and his chanteuses on the vocal tip, and an overall narcotic vibe that sinks in and doesn't let up. Yes, the influences are familiar, but what they do with them is uniquely hypnotic and wholly distinctive. The songs jump back and forth from French to English, but it's really all about the mood here. We can't recommend 'em highly enough! Titles Include "Salvation", "Longanisse", "AF3458", "Kinam", "Hospital Boogie", "Bad Lady Goes To Jail", "Crystal Anis", "Belmondo", "Betty And Johnny", "Une Ballade Pour Clive" and the closing instrumental "I'm Dead". (Initial vinyl pressing limited to 600 copies!) © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
