Wonderful work from the early solo years of Teddy Pendergrass! The record's a monstrous mix of mellow soul and sophisticated tunes – one that pushes Teddy way past his earlier role in Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, into mature male soul territory that few others could match! The sound is sublime throughout – easily the next phase for the Gamble & Huff empire, and way past the easier Philly hit modes of a few years before. Titles include the wonderful "Close The Door", the kind of classy upscale modern soul that kept Philly going strong into the end of the 70s – plus "Life Is A Song Worth Singing", "When Somebody Loves You Back", and "Cold, Cold World". (Includes the lyric sleeve.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

The O'Jays keep on going strong – hitting a smooth mellow Philly vibe that takes them away from the style of their mid 70s hits! Unemployment Blues
Philadelphia International, 1976. Very Good+
Nice Philly groove record by this obscure funky band from the 70's. The title cut, "Unemployment Blues", is a brassy funky track with political lyrics, but our favorite cuts on here are the smoother soul cuts, like "Baby I'm Yours" and "Toy Ball", which has a nice ... LP, Vinyl record album

A half dozen great soul and dance cuts from the label that dominated commercial R&B throughout the latter half of the 70s: "Love Is The Message" and "Mysteries Of The World" by MFSB, "For The Love Of Money" by the O'Jays, "Breaking & Entering" by Dee ... LP, Vinyl record album

A sweet album of funky guitar tracks, with Freddy Robinson out front over a bunch of tight LA Monk Higgins arrangements. Kind of a sleeper that hasn't really gotten as many props in the groove scene as it ought to, with a great sunny west coast 60s soul jazz vibe running throughout. Joe Sample ...
