Two slices of work by Irma Thomas – a woman who definitely earns the title of "queen" of New Orleans soul! The first disc features great 60s material originally issued on the Ron, Minit, and Bandy labels – some of the best New Orleans soul recorded in the decade – and some of the classiest, too! Irma's vocals are deep, but also quite poised too – balanced beautifully between two poles of female soul expression, and handled with some of the most top-shelf production the Crescent City had to offer a the time. Titles include "Girl Needs Boy", "Cry On", "Don't Mess With My Man", "Set Me Free", "Ruler Of My Heart", "Two Winters Long", "I Did My Part", "Gone", and "It's Raining" – plus demos of "Your Love Is True" and "It's Too Soon To Know". The second CD is almost even more obscure – a 1976 live performance from New Orleans – featuring Irma with a very tight combo, running through cuts that include "I Done Got Over", "Cry On", "Wish Someone Would Care", "Lady Marmalade", "Ruler Of My Heart", "Shame Shame Shame", and "Hip Shakin Mama".
