Complete Jack Survives (hardcover)
Book (Item 593740) Buenaventura Press, Early 80s — Condition: New Copy
The complete work of one of our favorite characters from the Raw generation of comix – Jerry Moriarty's Jack Survives – an enduring feature that comes across beautifully in this oversized, hardcover volume! As Chris Ware points out in his introduction, there's a simplicity here that's startling – especially given the excesses of the underground generation that came before – just spare, basic images – but still filled with a richness that comes from Moriarty's painterly technique – none of the too-cold graphics of some of the other 80s cartoonists. There's a sense of layering that really opens up the simple stories – almost the "wrinkles" of Jack's age, a kind of "life goes on" quality that really illuminates the moments captured within. The book features some color paintings in addition to the black and white cartoons – and is huge, almost two feet high by one foot wide! © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
