Sun Ra Dedication -- The Myth Lives OnVarious

The legacy of Sun Ra lives on strongly -- in this surprisingly wonderful set of tribute tracks! The album features work by an assortment of future jazz underground players and producers -- all current talents that have clearly been influenced by Ra, especially his most righteous 70s work -- and the tunes on the set really go for the best side of the "Space Is The Place" generation, moving past some of the wilder avant work of Ra & the Arkestra, and instead focusing on the group's music that had a more cosmic and far-reaching spiritual approach. And although we were a bit suspicious at first, we have to say that the results are great -- an updating of Ra for the Goya London scene, done as best as we could have hoped! Titles include "Nuclear War" by Yesterdays New Quintet, "Black" by King Britt, "Nuclear War" by Alex Attias, "Saga Of Resistance" by Theo Parrish, "Stars Are Singing Too" by Build An Ark, "Astro Black" by Offworld, "Paepulsariki" by Recloose with Jonathan Crayford, and "Love In Outer Space" by Jimi Tenor. © 1996-2010, Dusty Groove America, Inc. | |||||
