A rough-edged batch of spiritual jazz tracks from trumpeter Charles "Cha Cha" Shaw (not to be confused with Charles "Bo Bo" Shaw) – recorded in an open-ended loft jazz mode with a really open, echoey feel! The album's a rare 70s jazz date on the Folkways label, and it's almost got the freer, open sound of an ESP session from a decade before – experimental jazz that's very much at the fringes, but also played with some of the spirituality of the post-Coltrane generation. Shaw's trumpet has a really earthy sort of feel – blown with a great sense of personality, and a sound that's almost heart-wrenching at times – especially on some of the more modal numbers. Other players include Brian Ross on tenor, Billy Lyes on piano and guitar, and Ronnie Boykins on bass. Boykins is really the only player we know here from other records – and titles include the nicely grooving "KZ", plus "Juggety", "Super Slik", and "Eternal". (Super-heavy vinyl and cover – feels like a vintage record on Folkways!)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Muse, 1970. New Copy (reissue)
An amazing album – and one of the underground soul jazz classics of the 70s! Blue Note, Mid 60s. New Copy (reissue)
A brilliant album that would forever change the way the organ was used in jazz! The set's the greatest contribution ever from organist Larry Young – a lean and modal session recorded with help from a young quartet that includes Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson, and Elvin Jones – all leaping ... Blue Note, 1964. New Copy (reissue)
The thing to do – is jam! Blue's sounding wonderful in this classic set for Blue Note – one of his best small group albums – recorded with a sound that's solidly in keeping with his lyrically melodic work in the Horace Silver group! The quintet features Chick Corea on piano ... LP, Vinyl record album

Medical, 1982. New Copy (reissue)
Not a Hawaiian band, as you might think from misreading the title – but a very cool early 80s German electronic duo – one with an equally great ear for tuneful melodies and darker moments! The music here rivals the best of the German new wave of the time – and shares that scene's ... LP, Vinyl record album
