A later album by Jimmy – recorded in a smooth slick jazz funk mode, a bit like the style that Jimmy Smith used on some of his Mercury recordings. The organ of Jimmy is augmented by keyboards played by Pat Rebillot and Paul Griffin – which makes for a nice mix of organ and electric piano sounds, plus some occasional moog that's very nicely placed! If you're not looking for full out funk, this is actually a great little album – with some wonderful little steppers that come across in a cool mellow jazz funk way. Titles include "Flexible Flyer", "Sky Hawk", "Grandma's Toe Jam", and "Bullfrog". (Cover has some wear and some tearing where a sticker was removed.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Groove Merchant, Early 70s. Very Good
Some great down-home work from Jimmy McGriff – a session that's a bit less funk-based than some of his others for the Groove Merchant label, but still plenty darn great! The set's kind of a nice link between the straighter soul jazz of McGriff's 60s years, and his return to the format at the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Milestone, 1976. Very Good+
Johnny recorded this one right after his legendary Gears album, and it features production by Wade Marcus that's very much in the Larry Mizell mode that made Johnny huge in the 70s! As with the Gears record, Johnny's backed by a large ensemble of players – and the overall sound has lots of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kudu, 1975. Very Good
An incredible batch of electric funk from Grover Washington Jr – easily one of his best albums ever! The record really picks up from the sweet CTI sound of the 70s – taking Bob James arrangements with a lot of space and electric keyboards, and letting Groover blow some wonderfully ...
