CD (Item 598036) Gaumont/Disques Cinemusique (Canada), 1982 — Condition: New Copy

An overlooked soundtrack from Georges Delerue – and one that ranks with some of his best work from later years! The music was scored for a film on the life of Guy De Maupassant – and rather than some of the more familiar Delerue modes based around a common theme, the soundtrack features a series of different short, vivid songs – often filled with a sense of nostalgia and sentiment, yet never in ways that are overdone – as they're handled with all the careful balance that Delerue is best known for. Each tune is almost a mini-vignette in sound – almost narrative enough on their own, with titles that include "Valse Grenouillere", "Petite Musique", "Quatour De La Comtesse", "Valse Du Final", and "Theme De Gisele Final". CD also features some bonus material that is quite compelling – Delerue compositions for flute and guitar duets – plus one more for flute and ensemble – very personal work that rounds out the package nicely!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
