An overlooked soundtrack from Georges Delerue – and one that ranks with some of his best work from later years! The music was scored for a film on the life of Guy De Maupassant – and rather than some of the more familiar Delerue modes based around a common theme, the soundtrack features a series of different short, vivid songs – often filled with a sense of nostalgia and sentiment, yet never in ways that are overdone – as they're handled with all the careful balance that Delerue is best known for. Each tune is almost a mini-vignette in sound – almost narrative enough on their own, with titles that include "Valse Grenouillere", "Petite Musique", "Quatour De La Comtesse", "Valse Du Final", and "Theme De Gisele Final".
