Seminal work from the lovely Basia – and an album that's a wonderful hybrid of jazz, soul, and pop – all put together at a level that really goes beyond most of her contemporaries! There's a vibe here that's almost like Swing Out Sister at their best – catchy, but never cloying – and done in an 80s style that refers strongly back to 60s and 70s styles, yet still keeps things quite contemporary overall. And although most of the tunes are pretty poppy, they're also pretty great, and really hold up over the years – thanks to slight undercurrents of jazzy instrumentation, of the sort you'd get from Brit artists like Working Week or Sade. Titles include "Promises", "From Now On", "Freeze Thaw", "How Dare You", "Astrud", and "Miles Away".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

An 80s girl group classic from Krystol – the debut album from this tight quartet who really seem to rise to the challenge of the album's polish! Inner Feelings
Epic, 1982. Very Good
Great early work from Billy Ocean – a smooth album of understated groovers, all done in a style that's nicely retrained, and which places a good focus on Billy's great vocals! Most of the record skips along in a warm mellow groove – never too over the top, and in a way that makes us ... LP, Vinyl record album

Destiny
Epic, 1978. Very Good+ Gatefold
A heavy groove and a heady title that points the way towards Michael Jackson's soon-to-be legendary solo career – all served up in a batch of tracks that resonate nicely with the Off The Wall groove!
