Amazing sounds from Fela – a previously-unreleased live show from the mid 80s! Given that there's very few live recordings of Fela at all, the album's quite a treasure – and is almost even more important, as it's one of the few from a time when Fela was hardly recording at all – yet clearly, from the concert performance, able to groove as strongly in the 80s as he could back in his heyday of 70s Afro Funk! Recording quality is a bit "live", but the album more than makes up for that fact with some very extended performances – tracks that usually spin out past the half hour mark, with even more jamming than on Fela's studio albums. Titles include "Beast Of No Nation", "Just Like That", "Confusion Break Bones", and "Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

An early recording by Malian singer Na Hawa Doumbia – made in Abidjan, Ivory Coast in 1982 – which finds her backed by guitar, keyboards and raw drums that starkly frame her voice in a great way! Very cool contemporary work from Mali – music that's a lot more electric and beat-oriented than other sounds you might already know from the scene – but still served up in a style that's nice and stripped-down too! There's a mix of electricity and organic acoustic elements that almost ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pure insanity from the mighty Mulatu – one of his few American albums from the 60s! A great one from Nigerian bandleader, composer and multi-instrumentalist Peter King – working in a funkier mode here than on the more jazz and roots based groove of his first record! Do yourself a favor, and buy this album – you won't be disappointed! Groovy Eastern sounds from John Berberian – a musician we know from more rockish projects, but who steps out here on a relatively traditional set of tunes! One of the darkest records to ever come out of the Detroit soul scene!
