An oft-overlooked jazzy gem from Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson – and a beautifully swinging session that has Gil toning it down a bit, and working into a nicely musical groove that gets past the heavy politics of earlier years! The record's a great showcase for the more upbeat side of Gil's talents – and what it lacks in righteousness, it more than makes up for in a warmly flowing and very soulful vibe! The band's in great form – laying down tight warm jazzy riffs that provide some of the best backing for Gil's voice we've heard since Winter In America – and titles include the wonderfully catchy "Racetrack In France", plus "Hello Sunday Hello Road", "Under The Hammer", and "We Almost Lost Detroit".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

XL, 2014. New Copy
Plenty new here – a wealth of unheard tracks by Gil Scott-Heron – and some of the best music he recorded late in his life! The sides are all remakes of tracks from older 70s albums by Gil – but they're done in these stripped-down styles that usually just feature voice and guitar ... LP, Vinyl record album

Our favorite-ever album from Gil Scott-Heron – and a set that we'd easily rank as one of our favorite soul records of the 70s! Mind Of Gil Scott-Heron
Arista, 1978. New Copy (reissue)
A great little live album – one that's quite different than Gil Scott-Heron's double-length set for Arista – and a set that serves as a key bridge between his early protest work and his emerging vocal sensibility! The set features a fair bit of longer spoken passages – but unlike ... LP, Vinyl record album

Executive Suite 1
Polydor, 1974. New Copy (reissue)
A gem of a full-length set from Executive Suite – a Philly quartet who are probably best known for their singles in the 70s, but who really find a great way to open up here in the course of an expanded album! Some of the tracks are nice and long – done in a two-part style that really ... LP, Vinyl record album

Winter In America
Strata East/TVT, 1974. New Copy (reissue)
A beautiful jazzy classic, and perhaps Gil Scott-Heron's most perfectly realized album ever! Flying Dutchman, 1974. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
The revolutionary soul classic – a benchmark set that that brings together the most essential cuts from Gil Scott-Heron's first 3 albums on Flying Dutchman! First Minute Of A New Day
Arista/TVT, 1975. New Copy (reissue)
Gil Scott Heron's first album for Arista – very much in the mellow soul jazz work of his legendary album on Strata East! One of our favorite soul albums ever – a complete masterpiece from the mighty Leroy Hutson, easily one of the greatest soul singers of the 70s! Totally great – and a record you probably know nothing about! The album's one of the greatest ever to come out of the Hotlanta scene of the 70s – a tight batch of funk tracks with a heck of a lot of guitar. The set was produced by Tommy Stewart, of "Bump and Hustle" fame ... LP, Vinyl record album

No splashdown here – as Breakwater are every bit as soaringly soulful as they were on their debut set!
