Nice early stuff from Sergio – also issued as the album Brazil 65 on Capitol! That's Brasil 65, not Brasil 66 – a distinction that marks a key early stage for the great Sergio Mendes – heard here on one of his first albums to mix together bossa jazz and vocals! The approach here is a bit more like vintage bossa dates from Brazil – or a bit like some of the Verve bossa records too – as Sergio's core trio is at the heart of every tune, playing with a great jazzy approach – then augmented in different ways by alto and flute from Bud Shank, guitar from Rosinha De Valenca, and vocals from the lovely Wanda De Sah! Production is perfect – really in a classic Elenco Records mode – and titles include "Let Me", "Consolacao", "Tristeza Em Mim", "Muito A Vontade", "Reza", "Berimbau", and "Aquarius". (Cover has some wear, a small stain on one corner, and some pen on back.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Happy People
Pablo, 1979. Very Good+
Jazzy Brazilian drummer Paulinho Da Costa lays down a set of tight fusion cuts recorded in the U.S., along with folks like Larry Carlton, James Gadson, and Philip Bailey. There's vocals on about half the tracks, and the sound is sort of LA studio fusion from the 70's, with a nice bit of Brazil ... LP, Vinyl record album

Black Orpheus – Original Soundtrack (Epic)
Epic, Early 60s. Very Good
One of the greatest soundtracks ever – a record that set a whole new standard for audio representation of a film! The mad music for the set was composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim, with lyrics by Vincius De Moraes – and performed by Luiz Bonfa on guitar – but despite such prime ... LP, Vinyl record album

So Nice (Pickwick pressing)
Pickwick, Mid 60s. Very Good
Sort of a repackaging of the Brasil '65 album on Capitol – done here in a pressing by Pickwick that features a very psychedelic cover! The record's a mixed bag of tracks that has some bossa piano trio stuff, plus some vocal cuts with Wanda De Sah, the alto and flute of Bud Shank, and the ... LP, Vinyl record album
