Surfink (Record Store Day Black Friday release)
LP (Item 590689) Capitol/Sundazed, 1964 — Condition: New Copy
Way way more than the novelty record you might guess from the cover – and instead a great lost chapter in the LA studio scene of the 60s! Not that we're trying to fault the image on the front – because it's a great pic by Ed Big Daddy Roth – but the music in the grooves of the record is even greater – headed up by Gary Usher, and done with a great mix of surf and sunshine modes throughout! Gary sings lead vocals with Bob Klimes – and the group features keyboards from Leon Russell, guitars from Jerry Cole and David Gates, saxes from Steve Douglas, and tight drums from Earl Palmer – all working in a wonderful studio mode that's right up there with the best LA sounds of the time! Titles include "Surfink Blues", "Well I'm Goin", "Surfer Ghoul", "Doin The Surfink", "Little Fink Surfs Again", "Phantom Surfer", and "There's A Dog Gone Ding In My Ding Dong Boards". (Indie store exclusive release for Black Friday, 2011. Limited edition.) © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
