Romance – The Vocal Stylings Of Oscar Peterson

Add Item to Want List
CD (Item 503468) Verve (Japan), 1952 — Condition: New Copy

An overlooked side of the Oscar Peterson genius of the 50s – an album of laidback vocal tracks that are a great change from his better-known instrumental work! Peterson's not the sort of singer to belt out a tune at the top of his lungs – nor cast it in shimmering gossamer like some of his more composed contemporaries. And instead, he's got this nicely earthy, very human way of putting over a tune – a bit less polished than his near-perfect piano work, which also graces the backdrops of all the tunes in the set. Most of the cuts here are mellow, and have a great wee hours, saloon-styled sort of feel – almost as if Oscar was working overtime for Verve, way past midnight, and started to croon to himself while playing the songs. Titles include "But Not For Me", "I'm Glad There Is You", "One For My Baby", "I Can't Give You Anything But Love", "Spring Is Here", "These Foolish Things", and "From This Moment On".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
