Aorta
CD (Item 579455) Futura (France), 1971 — Condition: New Copy
One of the more obscure titles on the legendary French avant jazz imprint Futura – but a powerful session that really lives up to its heady company on the label! The group's led by bassist Paul Van Gysegem, and features some really breakout players from European improvisers who include Nolle Neels on tenor, Patrick DeGroote on trumpet, Ronald Lecourt on vibes, Jasper Van't Hof on piano, and Pierre Courbois on drums. The vibes are especially nice – and often played with the frenetic intensity that's used on the horns – quite a compelling change for the instrument – and it's also nice to hear Van't Hof playing acoustic, in contrast to his better-known electric work on MPS. Tracks are all quite long, and pretty free – and titles include "Aorta", "Nummer 86 Is Een Kerrygerecht", and "Voor Anouk". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
