Takin' You Back To The Music Suite
CD (Item 476024) Trugroid, Early 80s/2008 — Condition: New Copy
Basement soul grooves that reach for the cosmos from Dayton Flic – a project that started in the early 80s Ohio scene – and is only now seeing the light of day! Takin' You Back To The Music Suite features tracks that were recorded in the post disco early 80s – spacey soul tunes with some nice funky bass work by future Burnt Sugar member Jared Michael Nickerson, guitars and programming by Chris Bowman – Hammond, Rhodes and Moog by Dean Hummons – drums by Roger "The Dodger" Parker and vocals from Jenny Douglas. The members all went on to some incredibly diverse session and touring work, while Jared went on to cohabitate the free form jazz funk Burnt Sugar collective! The opener "Taking You Back" has recently recorded additional vocals from fellow Burnt Sugar collaborator Justice Dilla X, and that tune is remixed to close out the set – while the 1982 sessions make up the Music Suite section, a flowing piece that really does serve as sort of a cosmic soul suite – with the tracks "Move Your Body", "Livin For Your Love", I'm Mad" and interludes.
