More Moondog/Story Of Moondog
CD (Item 6114) Prestige/OJC, 1956/1957 -- Condition: New Copy
Incredible work from the enigmatic Moondog -- and a great CD that brings together his rare 2nd and 3rd albums for the Prestige label! The work here is quite different than some of Moondog's later, more serious compositions -- in a mode that's much earthier, personal, and spontaneous -- more in keeping with the mostly-jazz catalog on Prestige (although admittedly, all Moondog records are still a strange fit for the company!) There's a spare, stark modern style here that's almost a small combo version of the Harry Partch sound -- or a looser, freer take on some of the modes of the Gil Melle camp. Most tracks are quite short -- and are built out of primitive flutes and reed instruments, odd percussion, eerie vocalizations, and even some organ and other instruments created by Moondog himself. The CD features a total of 30 cool little tracks -- and tunes include "Organ Rounds", "Wildwood", "Moondog's Theme", "Chant", "Oboe Round", "Trimbas In Eigths", "In A Doorway", "OO Solo", and "Seven Beat Suite". © 1996-2009, Dusty Groove America, Inc. | |||||
