Late stuff by Cannonball, with a dope spacey electric sound, no doubt due to some very nice keyboards on the session by George Duke. The album's a bit mellower than some of the others on Fantasy, but it makes up for that with a warm snaking mellow funk groove. Brother Nat gives a helping hand on both cornet and production duties, and the group also features Airto, Alphonso Johnson, Jack DeJohnette, and Alvin batiste with guest spots by Flora Purim and Ron Carter. Tracks include "New Orleans Strut", "Salty Dogs", "Lovers", and "Children of Time". (Includes the medallion order form.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Music, You All
Capitol, Early 70s/1976. Very Good+
Excellent live set from the early 70's, featuring George Duke, Airto, Ernie Watts, and brother Nat. David Axelrod produced, and the LP's got that nice hard funky sound that he did so well during his stint with Cannonball. Includes the 12 minute groover "The Brakes", plus "Oh ... Price You Got To Pay To Be Free
Capitol, Early 70s. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
Classic funkiness with David Axelrod producing, and lots of funky electric piano by Joe Zawinul. Recorded live, when the group was at their best, and with 2 LPs worth of great originals – many by Zawinul. Titles include "Alto Sex", "Lonesome Stranger", "Wild-Cat ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lush Side Of Cannonball
EmArcy, Late 50s. Very Good
A wonderfully mellow set of ballads recorded by Cannonball, with orchestral backings by Richard Hayman. The album's typical of the kind of "all over the map" approach that Mercury used during Cannon's early years – before he'd settled down into the one-man soul jazz factory he ... Inside Straight
Fantasy, 1973. Very Good Gatefold
One of Cannonball Adderley's late funky sessions for Fantasy – and a record that still features some mighty heavy production from David Axelrod! The album's got that core groove that Axe and Cannon first crafted together at Capitol in the 60s – but the sound here has some definite 70s ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bird At St Nicks
Fantasy/Debut, 1950. Very Good+
Posthumous issue of an early 50s live set by Charlier Parker – one of the many that were rushed to the public in the years after his early death. The set, like many of the other live ones from the time, isn't recorded that well – but the music is still pretty wonderful. There's a real ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fantasy, 1971. Very Good+
One of Duke's last albums – and a great one!
