CD (Item 565929) Brownswood (UK), 2011 — Condition: New Copy

Excellent work by a group with a very unique vibe – one with African roots, but a sound that's really transformed through their presentation – given bits of odd rhythms, dubby production, and other nice touches – yet all in a way that still respects the core essence of the music! The project almost feels like some lost New York downtown groove from the early 80s – maybe the best bottom-heavy sounds on 99 Records, or some of the New Africa work on Celluloid – but with a laidback vibe that's perfect for the Brownswood ethos, too! The group are a London collective, with a rich post-colonial approach – and for this set, they're also working with help from Joseph Nymungu of Nairobi – who sings a bit and plays nyatiti. Other instrumentation includes nyidounge, percussion, guitars, and plenty of bass – plus some occasional guest farfisa and omnichord from Damon Albarn! Titles include "Gone Thum Mana Gi Nyadhi", "Odera Lwar", "Wires", "Hera", "Margaret Okudo (dub)", "Hera", "Owegi Owando (solo)", "Nabed Nade Ei Piny Ka (rework)", and "Here On The Line".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
