LP (Item 55806) Gordy, 1978 — Condition: Near Mint-
Just Sold Out!

LP, Vinyl record album

Rick James' first LP for Motown subsidiary Gordy, that was to provide the blueprint for his later success. James' trademark pop bass funk style is fully formed on this one already, and though we may once have thought little of the slick production and style, looking back this stuff has a good bit more substance than some of the other commercial R & B of the day. "Mary Jane" & "You & I" were the 2 big hits of this album, which also includes "Be My Lady", "Hollywood" & "Sexy Lady". (Cover has some moisture damage on one corner and a few creases.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Stax, 1973. Near Mint-
A crowning achievement for Rufus Thomas – a set that bubbles over with funky intensity, and one of the last great albums he ever recorded for Stax! The funky Rufus mode is still in full full swing here – with loads of tunes that have the word "funky" in the title – ... LP, Vinyl record album
King, 1970. Very Good-
Further genius from James Brown at the start of the 70s – a record that's starting to show some of the more open-ended grooves he'd explore with the JBs on their own albums – longer, stretched-out tracks that are way more than simple funk and soul! There's a sense of freewheeling ... LP, Vinyl record album
Oh Girl
Atlantic, 1972. Near Mint-
Wicked electric funk from Young Holt Unlimited – and a real departure from the sound of their 60s albums, and a step into a groove that's very 70s-styled overall! The album's heavy on Fender Rhodes – played not just by group member Ken Chaney, but also by a young Bobby Lyle – ... LP, Vinyl record album
