CD (Item 585293) Polydor/Hip-O Select, Late 70s/Early 80s — Condition: New Copy

Great James Brown from the late Polydor years – a time when the Godfather had changed his groove a bit, but was still going incredibly strong! The style here is a bit more uptempo than before – a move that made some folks think James was going disco. Yet it's still pretty darn funky, too – and hardly disco at all, given the production, and the overall construction of the music – which still mostly comes from the core funky energy of a set of live musicians! The groove is mighty nice – tighter than boogie, funkier than most club singles, and Brown's amazingly soulful vocals are always dead on the money – hitting hard with some catchy lyrics that make most of these tunes dancefloor killers. The 2CD set features lots of 12" single versions, plus 7" cuts too – and titles include "Get Up Offa That Thing/Release The Pressure (12" version)", "Eyesight (12" version)", "Star Generation (12" version)", "For Goodness Sakes Look At Those Cakes (12" version)", "Give That Bass Player Some (12" version)", "Rapp Payback (parts 1 & 2)", "Sometimes That's All There Is", "Stone Cold Drag", "Regrets", "Let The Boogie Do The Rest", "The Original Disco Man", "Smokin & Drinkin", "I Go Crazy", "World Cycle Inc", and "It's Too Funky In Here (12" version)".
