Driftwood
LP (Item 602254) Unheard-Of, 1980s — Condition: New Copy
Rare rootsy work from Russell Hoke – a set of recordings that are mostly from the 80s, featuring Russell on banjo and vocals – but with the same sort of unique vibe as his guitar-based albums! There's a really odd, offbeat feel going on here – a timeless sense in the presentation of the music, but a very unsettling quality to some of the lyrics – a bit like the blend of past and present that you'd hear on the first Palace Brothers album – but mostly recorded by Russell in the decade before! The banjo's clearly schooled in bluegrass, but is set free to explore other modes – as are Hoke's own vocals, which remain as distinct as ever. Titles include "Happy Anyway", "Hangin At Charlies", "Falling Rain", "Wanderin & Wonderin", "Artificially Wise", "Twenty First Century Ice Age", "Vanished Realm", and "Scorpio Madi". (Very limited. Comes in a hand-assembled package from Russell himself.) © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
