Detour To The Moon
CD (Item 593004) Jubilee/EMI (Japan), 1958 — Condition: New Copy
One of the rare few albums from vocalist Mary Ann McCall – a hell of a great singer, and one with a really moody, dark style! Mary Ann's got all the sad tones and blue hues we love in June Christy's best work – and she arguably works with even hipper backings, too – some inventive small group material that mixes performances by Teddy Charles on vibes, Mal Waldron on piano, and Jimmy Raney on guitar with some occasional violin and viola – used sparingly, and worked into these very offbeat arrangements that make the album unlike anything else we can think of – and every bit as striking as the title and cover! Tunes include "Detour Ahead", "Blue Moon", "Moonlight Becomes You", "Moon Country", "East Of The Sun", and "The Moon Was Yellow". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
