Live At The White House (And In Space!)

Add Item to Want List
CD (Item 616188) Capitol, 1972 — Condition: New Copy

A pretty wild couple of chapters in the career of Bakersfield honky tonk innovator Buck Owens – a live album recorded at LBJ's White House in 1968 – plus previously unreleased tapes of music Buck made for the Apollo 16 mission – which were sent to space to entertain the astronauts – and never before released commercially until now! First up is the White House set, done for a private audience of president Lyndon Johnson and his staff! Buck Owens is Buck Owens even at the White House – doing raw Bakersfield honky honk with avuncular charm even in this most hallowed of venues! The record actually includes one studio track, the fun leadoff "You Ain't Gonna Have Ol' Buck To Kick Around No More", followed by Buck Owens and his Buckaroos turning the White House into the big ol' pillar-ed honky tonko for a little while! Includes surprisingly raucous versions "Act Naturally", "Together Again", "Love's Gonna Live Here", "Crying Time", "I've Got A Tiger By The Tail" and "Truck Driving Man", plus the Buckaroos-sung "Orange Blossom Special" (Don Rich), "When I Turn Twenty-One" (Buddy Alan) and more. The 9 tracks that make up The Apollo 16 Program have more of a live radio show feel to it, with brass and female backup vocals, and lots of fun dialogue between Buck and the players. Includes versions of "Good Ole Mountain Dew", "Sam's Place", "Roll In My Sweet Baby's Arms", "White Lightning" (sung by Buddy Alan), "Georgia Pineywoods", "Tall Dark Stranger" and more.  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
