One of Bill's few records that actually feature The Coz singing it up! This one's like his work on Warner Brothers – with funky backings behind Bill's slightly-silly soul vocals. The set was produced by Stu Gardner, who ostensibly did the music too – and Stu's on organ, piano, and clavinette, in a group that features George Bohannon, Syl River, Ray Parker, and Rudy Johnson, plus backup vocals by Patti Austin and Lani Groves. Tracks include "Kiss Me", "Put Love In Its Proper Place", "Take Your Time", "Dedicated To Phyllis", "It's Strange", "Dance of the Frozen Lion", and "Train To Mempis". (Cover has a cutout hole, staining & peeling along the bottom three inches, and some marker inside the gatefold.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We'll Get Over
Stax, 1969. Very Good+
Perfect work from The Staple singers – a tight blend of gospel soul and Memphis funk, handled here with a tightness that avoids all the cliches of some of the group's later work! The group's hard vocal approach is very much in place on all tracks – raw but not careless, with great ... LP, Vinyl record album

Donny Hathaway Live
Atco, 1972. Very Good- Gatefold
Massively beautiful work from the great Donny Hathaway! After two studio albums that had firmly put him on the map as one of the 70s best soul talents, Atco had the genius to have Donny record this live album before very enthusiastic crowds in Hollywood and New York. The result is one of the best ... LP, Vinyl record album

King, 1970. Very Good-
Further genius from James Brown at the start of the 70s – a record that's starting to show some of the more open-ended grooves he'd explore with the JBs on their own albums – longer, stretched-out tracks that are way more than simple funk and soul! There's a sense of freewheeling ... LP, Vinyl record album
