Dutch ExoticaVarious
CD (Item 487595) Sonic Scenery (Netherlands), 1950s/1960s — Condition: New Copy
Exotic grooves from the other side of the Atlantic – a very unusual take on the exotica styles of the postwar years, pulled from a range of rare Dutch recordings! The work here has a slightly different bent than American exotica of the same stretch – almost a re-interpretation of the US take on the sounds of the south seas – moved over from the Pacific, to the mainland, back across the Atlantic, to the continent – with all the changes in sound you might expect! Some of these tunes have a decidedly Latin feel (a stop in Cuba along the way?) – while others bring in some of the sweeter European instrumental modes of the period, yet still with plenty of the percussion and odd effects that make exotica records so great. Titles include "Midnight In Malaya" by Boy & His Rollin Kids, "Beautiful Isle Of Somewhere" by Jan Tromp, "Pineapple Princess" by Jamaica Johnny, "Africa" by Milly Scott, "Jamila" by Laguestra, "South Sea Breeze" by Mena Moeira Minstrels, "Bali Bali Boogie" by Ambonia Serenaders, "Bron Bron Calypso" by Max Woiski, "Orinoco" by Malando Met De Marinerskapel, "Jungle Fantasy" by Combo Rinus Val Galen, "Candid Cuban" by Stef Meeder, "Zambesi" by Dick Willebrandts, and "Mr Bongo" by Rob Meyn & His Rainbow Quartet. 26 tracks in all! © 1996-2010, Dusty Groove America, Inc. | |||||
