CD (Item 571973) Now Again, 1960s/1970s — Condition: New Copy

Volume 2 of Now Again's True Soul revival – giving the legacy treatment to the deep funky soul of the amazing Arkansas independent label of the 60s & 70s! It's filled with far-reaching southern soul and funk, some that goes toe-to-toe with the higher profile sounds of Stax and Hi when it comes down to insistently emotional grit. That said, True Soul has a roster that rolls in more a genre-defying styles, without sparing the soulful bedrock – the label's True Soul, after all! Strains of psychedelic funk flavor many of the recordings, and in the later years, some 70s boogie, spacey keys and other elements. Includes numbers by Albert Smith, Thomas East, Classic Funk, Larry Davis, John Craig, Portrait, Le'Chance and more. 18 tracks on Volume 2, including 8 previously unreleased tracks: "The Thrill Is Gone" by Albert Smith, "Just A Trip" and "Sister Funk (Instrumental)" by Thomas East, 'Down Home Funk (Full Version)" by Larry Davis, "The Funk's Gonna Fly" by Classic Funk, "Thank You" by York Wilborn's Psychedelic Six, "I Don't Want To Do It" by John Craig, "Get Down" and "Gigolo" by Le'Chance, "I Took Your Love (To Be True)" by Soul Mind And Body" and more. Volume 2, like the first one, comes with the bonus DVD featuring live footage from a 1973 True Soul Revue television program, and and is hardbound with the 56-page booklet – full of vintage performance, studio and promo photos, discographies, deeply felt notes by Eothen Alapatt, plus interviews conducted by Egon. A truly epic effort from Egon and Now Again – with a setlist that's just as exceptionally well compiled as Vol 1, if not even slightly more so! .  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
