Book (Item 595570) IDW Publishing, Early 30s — Condition: New Copy

Key years in the development of Little Orphan Annie – a character who was clearly at her best during the Depression years covered in this volume! By the time of these strips, Harold Gray was really off and running – moving way past the simple sob stories of Annie's early years, and into some deft critiques of society and its many ills – often told with a good deal of action, and a nice dose of humor as well! The material here is some of our favorite – and honestly, a big inspiration for what we do here, and the way we go about our business – and although you might have a simplistic version of the character from later musical moments, the depth of the original strip is stunning. The oversize book reproduces material from 1933 through 1935 – with black and white daily strips, and full color Sunday ones – as well as a great introductory essay from historian Jeet Heer. Almost 300 pages, and beautifully put together! (Please note that there is a remainder mark on the spine & a slight rip on the dustcover.)  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
