Temporarily Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

Harry Lubin did the soundtrack for this classic sci-fi digest TV show, and Decca released the whole thing in a beautiful colored foil cover, with a picture of the Milky Way raidiating colorful rays over a shiny space set! The bulk of the tracks are orchestral, but they've got a haunting quality that's a great example of the kind of eerie suspense and space themes you can get when you arrange a string section with a lot of atonal sounds! Titles include "Weird", "Paris", "Island Off Spain", "Fear", and "Jungle Aire". (Original mono pressing with deep groove, in the original foil cover. Cover has some wear, some seam splitting, and a few stains.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Decca, 1955. Very Good-
One of the greatest jazz soundtracks of all time! Elmer Bernstein wrote the score to Otto Preminger's chilling film version of Nelson Algren's book The Man With The Golden Arm – a sad tale of jazz, gambling, and heroin addiction on the streets of Chicago (not far from Dusty Groove, in fact!) ... Zulu
United Artists, 1964. Very Good
Zulu is pulled from a colonial period film that starred Michael Caine, and about half the score is straight orchestral scoring – dramatic music to set the mode of the narrative – but the other half are more African-sounding numbers, handled by Barry with a colonialist zeal! A fairly dramatic score by Hopkins, written for this film directed by Sidney Lumet, written by Tennessee Williams, and starring Marlon Brando! One of Isaac Hayes' richest soundtracks – deeper and more complicated than the groove of Shaft and Truck Turner, and filled with some great tunes that glow with color, life, and imagination – showing an Isaac Hayes that almost seems to be moving beyond the usual blackploitation groove! ... One of the nicest albums cut by funky flute player Moe Koffman – kind of a batch of groovy 60s instrumentals, but with more of a soul tinge than you'd expect by the cover. The record features nice originals by Koffman called "James Brown's Bag" and "Funky Monkey" – ... LP, Vinyl record album

1960 nightclub recordings from Lenny Bruce – done at a time when he was really opening up stylistically, and taking on a host of themes that really tell a tale of the times!
