Fatback flying like the Phoenix – but hardly rising from the ashes, given that the group's always on top! The sound here is a bit different – slightly leaner than before, but in a good way – with lots of core keyboards from Bill Curtis, who also handles most of the lead vocals – although as with most Fatback sets, there's plenty of sharing on that front with the rest of the group members – a bit of harmony here, a switched lead there – all keeping things nice and fresh! And this time around, there almost seems to be more of a focus on the mellower cuts, which we like a lot – because we've always enjoyed the more laidback numbers tucked in amidst the group's funkier sets – so this album's a real treat, with plenty of mellow and midtempo groovers. Titles include "The Drum Song", "Lover Man", "Call Out My Name", "You've Got That Magic", "Big Brother", "Jump Up Baby Jump Up", and "I Love You So".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Swing Your Daddy
Roxbury, 1975. Very Good
A classic around these parts – mostly for the jazzy swing-beat of the title cut, which is a favorite among Chicago steppers. "Swing Your Daddy" is laid out in a long two part version – but there's also a lot of other nice cuts on the album, with a sound that's more in the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Inside Of Me
RCA, 1981. Very Good+
A killer batch of clubby soul from Esther Williams with a great New York sound! Inside Of Me a perfect example of the kind of excellent material that verges on disco, but which still keeps things pretty darn soulful. Released in '81, it's steeped in the warm, timeless and beautifully well ... LP, Vinyl record album

There's A Riot Goin' On
Epic, 1971. Very Good- Gatefold
A wonderful album from Sly and crew – moving way past the straight funk approach of earlier records, into a complicated crossover soul style that's filled with warmth and righteousness. Despite the political tone implied by the "riot" in the title and the co-option of the American ... LP, Vinyl record album
