A dance project from Cecil Taylor? Stranger things have happened, but the record still comes as a bit of a surprise – given that most of Taylors music is so out there and abstract, it would be hard for any dancer to follow its rhythms! This music is no exception, but it has perhaps a bit more of a pulse – a quality that builds up slowly at the start, with almost more of a spiritual feel than some of Cecil's other music – even though some of the piano work is still quite free at points. The group's a trio – with the great William Parker on bass and Masashi Harada on percussion – and the album's broken into two long sections, "Astral Fluid On The Earth" and "Soul Activities" – with the shorter tracks "Looking Into The Universe", "Emerging From The Cosmic External", "Feeling", and "Willing". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
