Harry & Son
CD (Item 553623) Quartet (Spain), 1984 — Condition: New Copy
Lovely work from Henry Mancini – a later soundtrack, and one with some beautifully mature modes! The backings are relatively full, but there's a strong sense of jazz in the record too – thanks to some great solos from Bud Shank, whose sax lines snake nicely amidst some soft backdrops that are penned with a nice undercurrent of sorrow – all used in a way that's quite different from the usual Mancini whimsy you might expect! Other key players include Dennis Budimir on guitar, Victor Feldman on vibes, and Steve Kaplan on keyboards – all of whom bring in a nice sense of individual spirit amidst the larger musical ensemble. Titles include "Dinner For Two", "Harry's Theme", "Sunny Calypso", "Nina", "Migranes", "Happy Birthday Daddy", and "A Novel Named Harry".
