Steve Kuhn's a player who's always got our ears – a pianist we've loved from the late 60s onwards, still sounding great on this lovely set for ECM! There's a warmth here we haven't heard from Kuhn in a while – almost a return to those lyrical modes we loved in his 70s work for the label, particularly his acoustic lines – which always seemed to have this open flow that was definitely informed by work on Fender Rhodes, yet still in a very classic style overall! Kuhn's amazing here – and the album's one that definitely lives up to all of our love for his older records – and the trio is perfectly subtle, too – with gentle work on bass from Steve Swallow and quietly evocative drums from Joey Baron.
