Akale Wube
LP (Item 567975) L'Arome/Buda (France), 2011 — Condition: New Copy
Ethiopian funk galore – recorded by a contemporary combo from Paris, but one who really owe a lot to the Ethiopiques series of the 70s! The group take strong influence from Mulatu – who they cover heavily on the set – and their groove features lots of great trumpet, saxes, organ, and percussion – often in rhythms that have a slight bit more bass than original Ethiopian sounds – which makes for a slow-stepping funky vibe that's mighty nice! The record is easily one of the best new takes we've heard on this older style – and it was supposedly done in collaboration with the producer of the Ethiopiques series, too. Titles include "Gubelye", "Netsanet", "Jawa Jawa", "Nebyat", "Ayalqem Tedenqo", "Metche New", and "Yekatit". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
