Amazing stuff – the most intriguing album we've heard from Gal Costa in decades – and one of the first in many years to get back to the more experimental side of her music! The set was co-produced by Caetano and Moreno Veloso (who also play on the session as well), and it's really got Gal getting back to the creative styles of the Tropicalia years – yet also filtered through the more contemporary modes that Moreno's been using in his 21st Century projects too! The blend is incredible – a reminder that Costa can still be pretty damn captivating when she wants to be – and that she's still part of one of the most important musical communities on the planet. Kassin also does a lot of work on the record – and in a way, it almost sound most like some of his best creative projects in recent years – but graced with all the indescribable depth that Costa brings to her presentation of the lyrics. Titles include "Segunda", "Recanto Escura", "Cara Do Mundo", "Autotune Autoerotico", "Tudo Doi", and "Neguinho".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

A contemporary set, but one with a very classic bossa feel – maybe even more so than most other recent work from Toquinho! As you'd guess from the title, the album pays tribute to Toquinho's frequent musical partner of the 70s – poet and lyricist Vinicius De Moraes, the man whose words ... CD

One of the most heavenly albums ever recorded – a sublime post-60s session by Joao Gilberto, one with even more fluid grace than his original bossa nova classics! The setting here is extremely spare – Joao on vocals and acoustic guitar, backed by only a slight bit of percussion – ... CD

A great new version of this excellent live set from 1974 – one that adds 5 extra tracks to a record that's already one of Gilberto Gil's best! Gilberto is playing here in a fairly stripped down form, and the recording focuses mostly on his soulful singing and choppy acoustic guitar – ... CD

An overlooked gem from Airto – recorded after his 70s years on bigger labels, but a set that almost tops all of them in the end! There's a wonderful mix going on here – a blend of rootsy and electric, and Latin and Brazilian – the former clearly from the placement of the record ... CD

That's Brasil 65, not Brasil 66 – a distinction that marks a key early stage for the great Sergio Mendes – heard here on one of his first albums to mix together bossa jazz and vocals! The approach here is a bit more like vintage bossa dates from Brazil – or a bit like some of the ... CD
