Beautiful stuff from one of the most soulful 60s pop girl groups – and proof that The Shirelles were always a cut above! The record's a great batch of hard to find songs by the group – including some great Goffin/King numbers – recorded with some surprisingly raw vocals that definitely keep The Shirelles more on the soul side of the spectrum than the pop one – set to some soaring uptown soul arrangements that are totally great! Titles include the classic hit "Oh No, Not My Baby", plus "Get Rid Of Him", "His Lips Get In The Way", "A Girl Is Not A Girl", "Please Go Away", "Lonesome Native Girl", "What Does A Girl Do", and "What A Sweet Thing That Was". (On the Pricewise subsidiary of Scepter. Cover has staple holes.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Volt, 1971. Very Good
An album that's every bit as great as the title might imply – heavy guitar-based funk from the second version of The Bar-Kays – one that uses the new instrumental focus to push a groove that's much more black rock than before! There's still a bit of trumpet from the past, but the sound ... LP, Vinyl record album

World Pacific, Late 60s. Very Good- Gatefold
A sweet album of funky guitar tracks, with Freddy Robinson out front over a bunch of tight LA Monk Higgins arrangements. Kind of a sleeper that hasn't really gotten as many props in the groove scene as it ought to, with a great sunny west coast 60s soul jazz vibe running throughout. Joe Sample ... Enchantment
United Artists, 1976. Very Good+
Soaring grooves and mellow moments – a perfect blend of 70s soul styles, summed up here beautifully by Enchantment! The album's one of the group's greatest – and certainly one that's been very well-remembered around these parts – thanks to some rock-solid arrangements from Johnny ... LP, Vinyl record album
