Rock On The Hill
CD (Item 595942) Nato (France), 2010 — Condition: New Copy
Lol Coxhill never lets us down – and this beautiful album is a great example of his never-failing commitment to creative sounds on the soprano sax! The set is a live recording, mostly improvised, with bassist Barre Phillips and drummer JT Bates – captured recently in Paris, and featuring some wonderfully open interplay between the musicians! Coxhill's soprano seems to take center stage on most numbers – working in these lines that are quite melodic at points, even when clearly constructed out of thin air – and Phillips' work on bass often lurks very darkly in the background, sending in these subtle sonic shapes that gracefully shape the whole performance. Titles include "River's Bend", "Anything So Natural", "Scratch", "Ergo Somme", and "The World In A Grain Of Sand". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
